Kirby: Squeak Squad

KIRBY!!!!!!!!! KERBE!!!!!!!!!! MY ABSOLUTE BELOVED 💓💓💞💞💞💞💞💞💞 So… I only have a few Kirby games left to play and that makes me SO SAD but!!! I’m so excited to play them regardless, and Mouse Attack is one of the titles I have left to try! It’s actually the last mainline game I have to play, but I have a few spin offs yet to try and I gotta beat the Amazing Mirror

God, I still love the aesthetic of DS Kirby games, and Mouse Attack has the little bottom screen that shows when you eat enemies or get copy abilities and IT’S SOOOO COOOLLLL, I’m actually surprised it hasn’t been done before in the other DS Kirby games, it’s so cool

AND BUBBLE RESERVE POWER UPS?????? THIS IS SO LIKE SUPER STAR’S EXTRA MODES, I LOVE ITTTTTTTT, and if we do have a collection of items to find… God, it’s gonna be so fun. AND YOU CAN MIX BUBBLES TOO???!!!!?? GOTY AND HELL YEAAAAHHHH THERE’S USEFUL TREASURE TO COLLECT AND YOU KEEP THE CHESTS INSIDE THE SCREEN TOO, I LOVE THISSSSSSSSSSS

AND YOU CAN ENHANCE ABILITIES TOO??????? WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS GREAT??? AND LISTEN TO MUSIC??? CHANGE KIRBY’S COLOR??? AND EXTEND YOUR LIFE BAR??? CHANGE KIRBY’S STOMACH STYLE IN THE SCREEN??? ALL TREASURE IS USEFUL???? WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS GONNA BECOME ONE OF MY FAV KIRBY GAMES EVER

Main Story

Truthfully there’s not much story going on here except for Kirby HUNTING DOWN the squeaks to get back their shortcake, but it’s great that I can finally see what the Dark Nebula plot is all about and how it connects to the Kirby lore! PLUS I ENDED UP LOVING THE SQUEAKS!!! I LOVE DAROACH AND THE SQUEAKS THEME IS SO GOOOODDDDDD, though it gets a bit repetitive after a while sadly…

You know, most people would have gotten tired at this point of fighting Dedede and Meta Knight in EVERY single game BUT NOT ME! I’M BUILT BETTER THAN THEM, I LOVE MYSELF A DEDEDE AND META KNIGHT FIGHT IN EVERY SINGLE KIRBY GAME, I LOVE THEM WITH MY LIFE AND I LOVE THEIR THEMES. And honestly, I was so happy when I saw the Halberd level and Meta Knight appearing later on! I almost thought my beloved edgy swordsman wouldn’t make an appearance but I was so glad to see him there, and he even had the intention of helping since he knew that the important chest contained Dark Nebula

I’ve already finished 100% the game and collected all the treasures, and the final verdict is: I wish the game was less repetitive in its level design and mechanics. If it tried to differentiate itself in its different worlds, it might have definitely shot up to be my second favourite Kirby ever! That’s just how much the meaningful collectibles meant to me, I wish they came back in modern Kirby instead of being just a number

I really loved how with these collectibles, not only you unlock the final room where you can choose any copy ability, but also a WHOLE new copy ability that isn’t available anywhere else in the game: the ghost! It’s also a copy ability that hasn’t make an appearance in any mainline Kirby games since then so it feels extra special, though its utility leaves much to be desired

As for the minigames and the boss rush you unlock at the end, the minigames are plenty fun to kill some time and it makes me glad they brought back the warp star one on Return to Dreamland Deluxe. On the other hand, I… was not able to beat the boss rush. I probably would be able to do it if I just put in more time and tried some cheese with the tornado ability but I wasn’t feeling up to it, though I may return to beat it someday!

In conclusion, I love Kirby Squeak Squad and I wish it received a little more development time to differentiate itself from the GBA games. If it managed to have more diversity of levels and treasures, it would have definitely shot up to my top 3 Kirby games easily, though it’s still really high!
